About Me
It's great to meet you! I'm Jerry. I hold a Bachelor's of Science in Chemical Engineering from UC Berkeley, but quickly realized that teaching could combine my passions for STEM and helping others.
I have one year of classroom experience teaching 9th grade students Algebra 1. Teaching 160 students at once is no easy task, and it requires you to be creative and develop unique teaching styles and strategies for each student. While large group teaching is a good way to teach the basic concepts, I learned that direct 1-on-1 instruction helped students the most, as I was able to hear about their thinking process and do a deep dive on practice problems together.
Throughout my experience teaching, I have learned to develop teaching strategies and exercises suitable to students of all levels and how to best guide students to keep them engaged with learning. I enjoy helping my students realize that taking these exams is a learnable and conquerable skill. I also am passionate about helping students develop a deeper appreciation for STEM and its contribution to our own world.
My expertise lies in equipping my students with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to succeed through coursework and problems tailored to their strengths and weaknesses. During lessons, we develop personalized strategies and feedback to maximize their learning in a patient and encouragement-focused environment.
I am excited for the opportunity to help any students who hope to excel in math or science at any grade level, as well as students looking to ace the SAT or ACT. I am available for all days of the week and can organize in-person sessions either at home or at a public library in the Oakland Area. I'm quick to respond and easy to reach out to, so feel free to contact me for additional information or to schedule a session today!
